People with Passion: Doug Thubron, President of Ignite Solutions

Welcome to Ignite’s People with Passion series! We’re featuring our team members from across North America who make an impact both at work, and in their lives within our communities. We’re a diverse team, all experts in our own fields, who share the goal of creating better ways to work through technology. With our goal of Connecting People and Ideas through Technology, people are key.

Doug Thubron is the President of Ignite Solutions, and has served as a trusted partner to businesses as a managed IT services provider for the last 20 years – first as NBi Solutions, and now under the Ignite Technology umbrella. Ignite Solutions is growing fast and the team has just finished moving into their new home in our Calgary headquarters, so who better to kick-off our People Series than Doug.

“Our business has traditionally been about providing solutions that allow small or medium-sized organizations to access big-business capabilities through simplified IT practices, support and expertise. It’s central to our methodology to make technology accessible,” Doug says.

Removing complexity and IT disruption from users work and giving them back their ability to focus on their competencies is a big part of what drives Doug’s teams’ success, and so is building trusted relationships that support our clients on a long-term basis.

Hear from Doug in this interview about his journey from meeting Ignite Technology’s President and CEO, Steven Taylor, and merging to form Ignite Solutions, our newest service offering.

20+ years in tech, and a brilliant team of experts.

Doug got his start in the technology industry building computers for his family-owned and operated IT company in Calgary. He was quickly swept up in the wave of rapidly advancing systems and ideas, setting the stage for his own innovations as a managed service provider.

He’s an avid golfer and is married with three boys who keep him super busy with competitive hockey. Coach, volunteer, and now a Board of Directors member, Doug’s been committed to supporting the Simons Valley Hockey Association for over 14 years.

A culture of giving back.

One of Doug’s favourite initiatives his team ever took on was organizing a laptop drive to help support the Big Brothers and Sisters of Canada.

“When families were forced to adopt online schooling across the country, device accessibility really emerged as an issue. In many cases, multi-child households were having to take turns on a single device, or having to wait until their parent came home from work to use their smartphone and try and stay caught up on assignments for example,” Doug says.

The team was able to collect and clean up a ton of laptops for the organization to distribute in the community. Doug adds, “The entire team reached out to their connections, and because of everyone’s help the laptop drive was a great success.”

Thanks to its impact, Ignite Solutions has decided to champion this event annually, so stay tuned for information on this year’s drive and how you can participate.
